History
Built in 1846 as a modest farmhouse, Brewster By The Sea Inn’s roots are deeply connected to several Brewster founding families – The Dillinghams, The Fosters, and the Newcombs. Just up the road, west of the Inn, is the oldest house on the Cape – the Dillingham House, which dates back to the late 1600’s. Brewster By The Sea Inn’s Main House was built by the Foster Family when they were kindly asked to leave the Dillingham House when the patriarch passed away. At the time, the Dillinghams owned this entire area of Brewster, so the Main House was still on their land, but placed with some good distance between the two.
Brewster By The Sea Inn has been a bed and breakfast for over 50 years — since 1966, when it was first sold out of the historic family ownership. It was originally a 4-room Inn, and named, The Old Farmhouse Inn. During the first few summers, the Innkeepers hosted many of the actors and actresses who performed at the Cape Playhouse (word has it that the after-hours parties were legendary). In 2004, the name was changed to Brewster By The Sea Inn, and has been happily operated as such for the past 15 years.

Joy
Joy joined BBTS in February of 2018, when she moved to the Cape from Vermont. She was born and raised in Jamaica, and has been in the hospitality industry for over 26 years. She came to the United States in 2004 and has lived in Missouri, Myrtle Beach, New York, Vermont, and Florida.
She is our Jill of all trades, as she cooks and serves breakfast, heads up the Housekeeping Team, and often makes a pot of delicious Jamaican food to share before heading out for the day! Her name suits her perfectly, as she always has a smile on her face and loves to visit with guests. She and her husband, Milton, and daughter, Jade, live in Harwich.
